Congrats Skyler - Future Toledo Rocket!!!

Toledo, OH - The Toledo men’s tennis team has added two players to national letters of intent for the 2008-09 season, Head Coach Al Wermer announced today. The signees are Robert McCallum (Toronto, ONT) and Skyler Engel (New Albany, OH – New Albany).

McCallum is a five-time Ontario doubles champion. He is also a multiple-provincial singles champion and runner-up, as well as the 2007 Junior Nationals doubles champion. McCallum was a top-ranked Canadian national player, Canada Games gold medal winner and the Canadian selections champion.
"Robbie will bring a high level of confidence and flare, along with an explosive offensive game,” Wermer said. “I really like his potential, his incredible doubles game, plus his goals are a great fit for our program."

Engel is a four-year letterwinner and team captain at New Albany High School. He was the 2007 Division II doubles state champion, all-state and all-conference first team honoree as a junior with a record of 28-3. As a sophomore, Engel was second team All-Ohio and first team all-district with a 28-6 mark. He alos posted a 27-9 record as a freshman.

Sky is a crafty left-hander who'll bring more fearlessness to our doubles lineup,” Wermer said. “He's very disciplined, athletic, team-oriented with a huge up-side, and will be another fantastic fit here at Toledo."

NATC is very proud to be the winter home of Ann Grossman!

Ann Grossman, a former world top 25 singles and doubles player, has moved to New Albany and joined our coaching staff.

Ann grew up in Grove City and rose to the top ranks of junior tennis by age 18,  when she reached the semi-finals in all four Junior Grand Slams. She then joined the WTA Tour and played internationally for 11 years.  Highlights included playing in 40 Grand Slams and singles wins over Martina Navratilova, Mary Jo Fernandez, Jana Novotna, Conchita Martinez and Zina Garrison!

Since retiring from the tour in 1998, Ann lived in Fort Collins, CO with her husband Eric, a member of the 1996 Olympic Swimming Team, and two sons, Fletcher (7) and Tyler (3).  Ann's passion for tennis has kept her very involved in our sport, coaching top ranked juniors and playing senior events (she won the 2005 US Open 35's Master's Doubles Title).  She is also a member of the USTA's Fed Cup Committee and the U.S. Olympic Committee's Athletes Advisory Council for Tennis.

Each winter season, from October 1 - April 30, you can look forward to learning from Ann during many of our junior and adult programs.
